Chemotherapy medicines for breast cancer are used to destroy cancerous cells and stop them from diving, growing or spreading more in the area of the breasts. It is a fact that cancer cells have the tendency to grow and divide uncontrollably at a very fast rate. Due to this, sometimes cancer cells might spread more away from the original tumor and so affect other tissues and areas from the body. Chemotherapy is supposed to destroy not only the cancerous cells in the breasts area but it also destroys the cells that might have spread elsewhere. So it is notable that chemotherapy is a systemic kind of therapy, since it affects the whole body through the bloodstream and not only a specific area.

Another thing worth mentioning regarding the choice of chemotherapy for breast cancer is the fact that this type of therapy can be both used for patients in an early stage and also for advanced stage breast cancer. Most commonly chemotherapy is used after surgery, for the purpose of killing the cancer remaining and recovering sooner. The chemotherapy that is given after a surgery is called by most doctors adjuvant because it is an additional treatment.  Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy is the treatment given to shrink a tumor before its removal.

Most chemotherapy treatments consist of more than one medicine. When you are taking two or more medicines for breast cancer this combination is called a chemotherapy regimen.  As it is well known prevention and early detection are considered the best treatment. This is why chemotherapy in an early stage in significantly more efficient than in treating advanced stage breast cancer. The probability that the cancer will come back is way smaller in the case of early detection, while in advanced stage chemotherapy regimens make the tumor shrink or disappear in only about 40% of the cases.

Administering Vaccination
As I was saying before chemotherapy is an efficient treatment for all stages of breast cancer, even if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Chemotherapy regimens are different for every type of breast cancer and they also can depend on the patient’s preferences. When deciding on the chemotherapy medicines, both the patient and the doctor will consider all the available treatments, all the characteristics of the cancer and so the cancer sufferer will choose the best solution so that he will not regret anything, and most important, will be at peace with himself. No matter how many treatments will be available to you, and even if you have only one or two viable options, before accepting the treatment, take into consideration other treatments that you might have had, get very thoroughly informed and keep a positive attitude.
