Sheryl Crow, now 48, was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in late February 2006. “I am a walking advertisement for early detection,” Crow said in October 2006. It all started by catching a suspicious calcification in both of her breasts on a routine mammogram. She was able to skip chemotherapy because her cancer was caught at an early stage.

Crow, who has no close family history of breast cancer, used to be engaged with cancer survivor and cyclist Lance Armstrong, but ended it around the time she was diagnosed. She petitioned Congress to fund research into possible links between breast cancer and environmental factors, in March 2007.

Another famous singer, pop star Kylie Minogue was diagnosed in May 2005, at the age of 36. A second round of tests gave her the chance to fight and defeat breast cancer. A partial mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation followed the discovery of the lump in her left breast. “Just because someone is in a white coat and using big medical instruments doesn’t necessarily mean they’re right,” said Minogue, after experiencing a misdiagnosis at first.

In January 2003, a back strain made famous singer Anastacia decided to have her breasts reduced. A routine mammogram for the surgery showed she had breast cancer. She immediately started and successfully completed surgery and radiotherapy. Together with Estee Lauder, the artist created "The Anastacia Fund", to help raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of mammograms to women 35 and under.

Acting celebrities aren’t immune to the disease as well. And while for most women, the idea of parting with one breast, let alone two, is unimaginable, Christina Applegate (the star of the sitcom “Samantha Who?”) opted to do so. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2008, even though cancer was found in only one breast. The actress was tested positive for the BRCA-1 gene mutation. She chose mastectomy to reduce the chance of cancer spreading and planned a breast reconstruction surgery.

Applegate founded Right Action for Women, a charitable foundation dedicated to breast cancer screening for high-risk women who can’t afford MRI testing, which the actress credits by giving her an early start on treatment.

Cynthia Nixon (now 44), was hesitant to reveal that a cancerous tumor had been discovered in her right breast during a routine mammogram. Nixon, best-known for her role in “Sex and the City,” didn't want her condition to become public during her treatment. She quietly battled breast cancer in 2006 by undergoing a lumpectomy and radiation treatment, and she went public about her recovery two years later. “I didn’t want paparazzi at the hospital, that kind of thing,” said Nixon after treating her cancer. She has also a survivor breast cancer mother, that is why she decided to tell her story when she realized it might serve as an inspiration for other women at risk. Nixon is now an ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer.

Breast cancer is a cancer in which the cells of the breast tissue divide and grow without any control. It is the second leading cause of death in the whole world, and of course.. is the most common disease in women. Breast cancer is fully curable if it is diagnosed and treated in time.

Like all other cancers, breast cancer is fully curable if it is diagnosed and treated in early stages. This goal can be achieved only through self – examinations which are supposed to be made regularly (monthly) and in case of any abnormalities, immediately to have a medical examination (you can also find on this website many others effective information about self – examination). Here are some names of few famous women diagnosed with breast cancer, in an early stage, who fought breast cancer:

What Singer Has Breast Cancer

Published on Mar 26 2010, in the categories: breast cancer, celebrities

“I was shocked when I heard this news”, says the singer Sheryl Crow after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2006. The artist began the treatment for breast cancer right after diagnosis, at three weeks after her breakup with her former fiancé Lance Amstrong; Lance has maintained the contact with Sheryl, with her doctor and also with her family and he was confident in her ex-fiancée’s recovery because she has a strong character.

<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->

Lace Amstrong was also diagnosed with testicular cancer, but he managed to recover after a difficult treatment.

According to some confident sources, the two stars did not know about the disease when they decided to separate.

Sheryl was confident in her chances of cure saying on her own homepage: “There is almost 1 American woman out of 7 which is annually diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 2 million of the Americans are living currently with this disease. I join the over 200000 women that will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, in the United States.”

what-singer-has-breast-cancer

Sheryl Crow recovered after surgery (witch had place in Los Angeles) and then she made a preventive treatment with radiation. She certainly is a breast cancer survivor.

But what about Sheryl and Lance relationship? It seems that the wounds were not healed by now.

Amstrong says with no regrets about his relationship with the country music singer that not their careers were the reason of breaking up, but simply they met in a wrong time of their lives. “Sheryl wanted desperately to get marry and have children. I wanted this too, but I was not ready yet, because I just got out of a marriage and I already had three children”.

Finally, Sheryl’s biological clock was stronger and they broke up. Since then, Cheryl Crow admit that she is still thinking of Lance almost every day. In 2007 she adopted a baby boy.

But she is not the only singer which was diagnosed with breast cancer. There are many more. For example, Sonique underwent the second surgery for breast cancer.

what-singer-has-breast-cancer-2

“Sonique will be operated again for breast cancer because the doctors discovered that the first surgery was not successful and the tumor has spread” said Sky News.

The British singer underwent the first surgery in a London clinic after just one week from the diagnosis but the results tests after surgery showed that the disease has spread in the body. According to British doctors, the cancer has reached the lymph nodes and possible some organs too.

Sonique was planning to launch a new single this summer and she already set a tour of Europe but her spokesman announced that all this are depending on her health now.

The singer and also the DJ, Sonique became famous in the ‘80s, but she did not come on the first place in the charts until 2000 with the song “Feels So Good”.

Breast cancer is the most common form of a cancer in women and is the second cause of death; that is why we need to make clinical examination annually, self-examination each month, etc, because if it is diagnosed in an early stage, with appropriate treatment, the breast cancer is no longer feared.

Christina Applegate Breast Cancer

Published on Mar 22 2010, in the categories: breast cancer, Causes, celebrities, facts, survivors

As we all know, the breast cancer is a disease (like all cancers) that cause the cells to change and grow without control. Most types of the cancer cells are forming a lump or a mass which is called tumor. Breast cancer it begins in the breast tissue.

<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->

But there are some things we do not know and I am sure many women would like to know if there is a way to prevent breast cancer. I heard this question often but unfortunately for now, there is no guaranteed way to prevent it, and that is why the mammograms are so important. A woman is best overall preventive health strategy besides regular mammograms, it is to reduce the risk factors as soon as possible; avoid at least the known risk factors as obesity, and alcohol. All women should consider the increased risk of this disease associated with use of combined hormone – estrogen and progestin – this is the therapy in evaluating treatment options for menopausal symptoms; (tamoxifen can reduce the risk to develop this disease, among women at high risk).

Beside this, the next question would be: how can breast cancer be detected early? This is another common question and really important one. The early stage of breast cancer, when tumor is really small and most treatable and typically it does not produce any symptoms; it is therefore very important for women to follow recommended guidelines for finding breast cancer at this early stage. The most important physical symptom is a painless mass. 10% of the patients have breast pain and no mass.

christina-applegate-breast-cancer-2

There are also less common symptoms which include changes to the breast that do not go away, such as thickening, skin distortion or irritation, swelling, and the nipple symptoms : erosion, tenderness, spontaneous discharge, inversion, etc. American Cancer Society guideline for early stage detection change as a women ages and include mammography and clinical breast examination; for example for the women at the age of 40 or older, the advice is to make annual mammography, annual clinical breast examination and monthly breast self- examination, but at the women between 20 and 39 years the advice is to make a clinical breast examination every three years and monthly breast self-examination.

As we can see, this disease should be taken seriously. It does not really matter anything when it comes about breast cancer. It does not discriminate; any woman can develop this disease, even men. Many well known celebrities had to fight with breast cancer same like Cristina Applegate . During her teenage year, (even for more then 20 years, she made us laugh), she played in - Married with children - as Kelly Bundy and in 2007, she landed the role on – Samantha Who? – comedy series. She received for her performance, Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. In April 2008, at the age of 36, Cristina Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer, living quietly with it at first but she said that it was very hard to live with it without telling anyone and that is why she made all public. She found that she has cancer in an early-stage and she immediately took care of it: being afraid of relapse, she made the dramatic decision to have a mastectomy to the both breasts – bilateral mastectomy and after several months of treatment, she cured.

Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate. Famous people like singers, writers, actresses and ordinary women were hit by the breast cancer. This disease is making annually millions of victims. We no need to think that the stars have some others treatments, different then ours, even those, like any other women, diagnosed with this disease, have treatments like mastectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and they can also may be victims of malpractice like any other people.

Linda Nolan, the Irish-born singer, she is also an actress and former member of The Nolans (the pop band); she was diagnosed in 2006, at the age of 46, and she removed her breast as part of her treatment.

Shirley Temple, is famous for the roles played in childhood; she was diagnosed with this disease at the age of 44 and she opted for mastectomy. She is the first famous woman who had the courage to make public about her suffering. She did talk about this for the first time, to the U.S. public television. She had hoped that this way she will give courage to other women to perform regular checks and to face the disease.

Sheryl Crow, the singer, was diagnosed in 2006 after a routine examination. The star, immediately cancelled every concert she had and underwent a surgery follower by treatment (seven weeks of radiotherapy). She had 2 tumors in both breasts but because they were detected early, Sheryl managed to escape from chemotherapy. She did not have any breast cancer history in her family but in 2007 she signed a petition to the American Congress and requested to be allocated fundings for researches about the factors what causes breast cancer.

Breast cancer does not know age either because Kyle Minogue found out that she had cancer in 2005 at the age of 36. Kyle is a survivor in this battle with breast cancer because after one year of treatment, which included mastectomy (only partial), chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she has healed.

She decided to remove both breasts after the malignant cells were detected only in one breast. She is Cristina Applegate, famous for her role Kelly Bundy, in 1990. It seems that the actress has taken this measure to remove permanently the risk of recurrence.

In the summer of 1992, Olivia Newton John was diagnosed with breast cancer. She did not stand on thoughts and she entered the surgery room and then continued with chemotherapy. One year later, the doctors gave the greatest verdict: the actress was completely healed.

Christina Applegate With Breast Cancer

Published on Feb 18 2010, in the categories: celebrities, survivors

Less than a month from her former lover’s death, the actress Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. If the disease is discovered in an early stage, and you take all the tests recommended by your doctor such as a mammogram and an MRI, breast cancer can be safely considered a non life-threatening disease. This was what, according to Yahoo the actress’ spokeswoman stated after the diagnosis. She was certain that, considering all factors, it was safe to assume that the disease will be easily treated and cured in the case of the famous actress.

<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->

The actress under 36 years old was invited to participate in the following month’s episode of the TV show "Stand Up to Cancer" which aims to raise funds for cancer research. The show was broadcasted simultaneously by U.S. television CBS, ABC and NBC. Christina Applegate was one of the actresses who began their career at an early age, but the role that made her famous was Kelly in "Married with Children".

Throughout her career, the actress won an Emmy in 2003 for the role she had in "Friends", but still has enough time to evolve more and perform better as an actress and one day, why not, she might even win an Oscar. The actress said in the television program "Good Morning America" that was cured of breast cancer after removing both mammary glands and, currently, is "clean one hundred to one hundred," according to bbc.co.uk. The actress also told the U.S. ABC television broadcasts that she decided to turn to the radical medical procedure, three weeks before, so that she will not have to go to medical examinations every four months.

"I am healed. Absolutely, 100% are cured and clean. They removed the entire tumor and I certainly will not die of breast cancer," said Applegate. Star of "Samantha Who?" was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine examination, according to hollywood.com. She is now confident that the treatments which were followed later destroyed all tumors and breast cancer tissue. Christina Applegate revealed the fact that she began to tremble when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, not knowing what to do and who to call. "I was so angry and I remember shaking," she said.

As I was previously saying, Applegate is known for playing Kelly Bundy in the successful U.S. television series "Married With Children", so her popularity definitely helped many women and her disease probably made many other women go to a examination. Recently, Christina Applegate was nominated for an Emmy Award for the role in the TV comedy "Samantha Who?". She was also nominated for a Golden Globe for the same role, that of a woman who wakes up after having been in coma for eight days and she actually does not remember anything from the past. The actress participated in many televised shows which aim to raise funds for research on cancer, and in one particular event also took part actresses Meryl Streep, Jennifer Aniston and Charlize Theron.

Although cancer is a terrible disease, it is not that hard to be treated. Christina Applegate managed to fight the disease with courage and hope and she is now completely cured and she can enjoy life again. It is admirable that she also promoted and raised funds for this cause and so managed to save many more lives.

Famous singer Olivia Newton John was diagnosed with cancer in 1992 and suffered a mastectomy and a reconstruction of the breast. The well known interpret of Kelly Bundy from Married with Children, Christina Applegate, was also one of the most famous celebrities that had breast cancer.
