Breast Cancer Awareness Logo
Published on Jun 24 2010, in the categories: awareness

The world wide known symbol cancer breast awareness is the pink ribbon. The story of the logo goes back in 1991 New York City. Participants to the race supporting breast cancer patients and survivors were given pink ribbons. One year after that Estee Lauder and Alexandra Penney thought of the idea to make the ribbons more popular throughout the country and maybe outside its borders. The color was decided a few months later and it was set to pink. This is the brief story of how the breast cancer awareness logo was born.

From now on every person wearing the pink ribbon said to the world: I support fight against breast cancer! Millions and millions of people are proud to wear the ribbon as a sign of total and complete support.

Unfortunately, breast cancer has spread more and more over the years. The logo did the same. The pink ribbon is not just a ribbon any more; it is a statement, a declaration. If you want the ribbon stands for human compassion and solidarity for a noble cause.
One breast cancer survivor thought that the world did not have enough pink ribbons. That is why she started something called The Pink Ribbon Shop. In essence this shop sells only products that have the breast cancer awareness logo on them. The list of products is so long that is truly very hard to just name them. Everything is in there and when I say everything I actually mean everything. You can start with your everyday t shirt or socks, with jewelry and all kind of accessories, books and bookmarks, with cell and even car accessories up to supplies for parties or items for children. Basically every product can feature the logo.

The idea of this shop came after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The news came as a shock, as it generally does. She began to gather information about this form of cancer, about cure, about treatment and other details, important details related to it. At the same time she started wearing the pink ribbon so that the people around her would know her story. It was her way of helping other with information. The effects around her were visible, people were learning about breast cancer, a bunch of colleagues and relatives, and friends went for a breast exam.
Realizing that the pink ribbon does raise awareness she wanted to reach more and more people. However, there weren’t enough pink ribbon products to make this work. This is how the shop came to an existence. All the money obtained from selling these products end up to breast cancer support centers or to organizations that assist cancer patients and support medical research. The shop continues to develop and expand. Everyone is welcomed to give a hand and to help this noble cause.
Gestures like this one are rare and worthy of all our admiration. If more people did what this woman did the world would be a much better place.
In conclusion we should all think about what gestures we’ve done so far and how we can improve them. As simple as a pink ribbon.
